More Baby Quilts

I have been home about a month now, from an extended trip abroad.  Perhaps the best part of coming home is the amount of quilting that was waiting for me!  I finished four baby quilts and 3 tote bags since I've been back!

Here are the baby quilts.  Many thanks to my friend Judy Kupchan for the pussycat fabric!

My sister's friend just had a grandchild.  Here's the quilt my sister chose as a gift --

Without any apparent design!

The squares in this baby quilt are put together with no rhyme or reason.  I love the lack of order. Apparently that seems to work!

Back in the Saddle

I've been away for two months, and when I returned I discovered that my daughters had given away all of the baby quilts in my collection.  Apparently, they needed a lot of baby gifts!  So, I got right to work on replenishing the collection.  Here is my first baby quilt. Hopefully there will be more to come!

Disappearing Nine Patch

During these long months of lockdown, we decided to try a new design for some of our couch quilts.  In an article by Janet Wickell on The Spruce Crafts website, I saw an example of the Magic Nine Patch or Disappearing Nine Patch, as seen in Karin Hallby’s 2002 book, Magic Pillows, Hidden Quilts.  Some call the technique Tossed Nine Patch (by Eleanor Burns).

You begin with a classic 9 patch. We used 4 1/2" squares, so that each 9 patch measured 12" square. Slice off 25% on two sides to create two new smaller units. Then add the smaller units to the original square in any of many interesting combinations, providing you with new basic squares which now measure 11" square. For a couch quilt, we used 12 of the 9 patches and added borders.

Both of these projects are still unfinished.  But we're having so much fun experimenting!

The Calm of Quilting

In these uncertain times, I have been finding a lot of peaceful comfort and calm in my quilting.  This new quilt was actually begun months ago, and now finally I found enough time and energy to complete it.  It is made up of 4" squares of a specialty fabric that has golden marbling running through it.  Sort of regal!

The quilt is meant for my grand-daughter's upcoming 5th birthday!  Wouldn't it be nice to be able to hug her and give it to her in person?

New Crib Quilt

Here's another new quilt.  This one is crib size, with lots of colors, emphasis on purple!  You can see that I like purple! Made out of 4 1/2 inch squares.

Child's Quilt

This delicious quilt is made in a larger size -- meant for a child ages 2-5 -- and very comfortable on an interim toddler bed.  It is made up of 4" squares with lots of sashing and lots of colors -- orange, turquoise, pink and even some purple.

Since we sold two quilts last week, I thought I should get to work replenishing our stock of baby gifts!  I made two new baby quilts -- here is one of them!  It is made with yellow and orange and blue squares with little elephants peeking through!

Big Girls!

Our twin grand-daughters just graduated to big girl beds.  I got right to work and here are the two matching quilts that I made for them.  One girl likes pinks and the other got turquoise and orange. Both quilts have purple in them and the same matching yellow trim.   Based on a version of the 4" square, I have created a new design, placing two squares together on each row, making a more dramatic and eye-catching design.

It is exquisite!

Happy Birthday!

My youngest granddaughter turned one-year-old this week.  Her mom requested a new summer quilt since her large crib quilt is made with a flannel backing and is too warm for the Jerusalem summer.  So, here is the new one that I made for today's big birthday bash.

The quilt is made from 4 inch squares and measures 32 X 40 inches.

Trucks and Planes

This quilt (made with 4 inch squares) was made for my grandson who is soon to be three years old!  He's a big shot and wouldn't sleep anymore with the small quilts that I had made for him in the past.  So here's something bigger with trucks, boats, planes, and extra terrestrials!  With love from Savta!
